Why Horolux

Straightforward reasons to bring your watch here.

Written Documentation

Every job produces a written intake note. You know what was found, what was done, and what was replaced before the watch leaves the bench.

Bench Equipment, Not Guesswork

Timing checks are done on a Witschi timing machine. Water-resistance is tested on a pressure tester. Results are measurable and reported.

Conservation Over Replacement

For vintage pieces, original components are kept where possible. No parts are swapped without explanation. Reversible decisions are the default.

Honest Timelines

Quartz jobs typically turn around the same day. Mechanical services take longer and the schedule is agreed at intake. There are no vague promises.

Staged Programme for Vintage Work

The vintage programme is structured in visits, not rushed. You can review the plan and opt out of any step before work proceeds.

Located in Bangsar Baru

The workshop is at 27-3A Jalan Telawi 3 — accessible, with parking nearby. Drop-in visits are welcome for quartz services during workshop hours.

Common Questions

Things people ask before bringing a watch in.

How do I know which service is right for my watch?
The simplest guide: if your watch is quartz and just needs a battery or a clean, it falls under the Battery & Quartz service. If it is a mechanical non-chronograph watch that has not been serviced in several years, the Mechanical Service applies. If it is a vintage piece — generally pre-1980s or with a fragile dial — the Vintage Programme is the more careful option. When in doubt, bring the watch in. We will look at it on the bench before recommending anything.
How long does a mechanical service take?
Mechanical service for a three-hand movement typically takes two to three weeks, depending on the queue at the time you bring it in. We will give you an expected date at intake. Quartz battery jobs are generally same-day if the watch is brought in before early afternoon.
What does the service report include?
For a mechanical service, you receive a report showing the timing rate in five positions before the service began and again after regulation. This gives you a reference point for the watch's condition and an objective record of the work done. For quartz jobs, you receive a shorter written note covering what was found, what was replaced, and the battery reference number.
Is my vintage watch a candidate for the Restoration Programme?
The Vintage Programme is suitable for older mechanical watches — typically mid-century manual-wind dress watches and early automatic calibres — where original character matters more than bringing the watch up to a modern specification. If you are uncertain whether your watch qualifies, bring it in for a look. The first step of the programme is just an inspection; no commitment to the full service is required at that stage.
Do you service brands other than Swiss watches?
Yes. The services are not brand-specific. We work on mechanical and quartz watches regardless of country of manufacture, including Japanese, German, and American-made movements. The relevant factor is the service type — quartz, mechanical, or vintage — rather than the brand name on the dial.
What if parts are no longer available for my watch?
For vintage watches with scarce parts, the Vintage Programme includes an option for sympathetic part-making where needed. This is discussed and agreed in writing during the planning visit. We will not source or fabricate parts without your knowledge. If a part cannot be sourced or made to a satisfactory standard, we will tell you that clearly.
